Fothergilla gardenii - Dwarf Fothergilla
Dwarf Fothergilla is a compact, slow-growing native shrub that packs an impressive amount of seasonal beauty into a small footprint. In early spring, before the foliage even emerges, fragrant bottlebrush-like spikes of snowy white flowers put on a delightful show. Through summer, its thick blue-green to green foliage provides a lush, tidy presence. Come fall, the leaves ignite in showy shades of yellow, orange, and red — rivaling much larger shrubs in color impact.
With its upright mounding habit and compact size, Dwarf Fothergilla is perfectly suited for smaller gardens, foundation plantings, and front-of-border spots. It thrives in rich, moist, well-drained acidic soils and is a wonderful choice for native plant gardens and naturalized woodland settings.
Low maintenance and deer resistant, it’s a plant that gives back far more than it asks for.
Ideal for: Small gardens, foundation plantings, native landscapes, and three-season interest.
