Big Blue Sea Holly is a sturdy upright herbaceous perennial with thick stems and almost metallic silvery green toothed foliage.  The stems are topped by violet blue flower heads with thorny brackets in early to mid summer, with the blue spreading down to the upper stem and leaves as the flower matures.  Grows best in full sun with dry, fast-draining soils.  Drought and salt tolerant once established.
